What Will Be Your Legacy

August is What Will Be Your Legacy month. What are you doing to preserve your legacy? So many times we moms find ourselves taking the pictures but how often do we have pictures taken of us? Also, we are the ones making the scrapbooks. But how often do we actually scrap about ourselves?

Your challenge this month is to look at the layouts that you are doing and try and figure out how to put some of yourself in to it. Do a layout just about yourself. Future generations will be glad you did!!

New Look

How do you like the new bright and cheery look? I was really bored with all the regular templates and so I had Lindsay Kwait of Splat Creative Designs design a new look for me. You will find her logo on the right and can click through to see her site. Hopefully this new look will inspire me to be more faithful in posting. Please leave your comments on what you think of the new look. There will probably be a few more changes in the coming weeks as well.

Memorial Day

This is Memorial Day weekend. A time for us to stop and remember those who have given their lives in order for us to enjoy the freedoms that we do. But there is another tradition in my family for Memorial Day. It is a day to remember those relatives that have gone before us.

My Grandma Hoskins was a big one for this. I remember every Memorial Day having to go with her to plant flowers at the graves of family members. These were people that had died before I was born or when I was really young, so I did not know them. But I grew to know them through this tradition.

I do not live near enough to do this for my grandma, which makes me rather sad. And so on this Memorial Day I will try and remember her by talking about her with my son so that he can know her even though he has never met her.

I Remember

Today is the 6th anniversary of the terrorists attacks that so devastated our country. It is still hard to look at those pictures and see the videos of what happened. I will always remember those images, they will never go away.

I remember when I first turned on the news and saw the black smoke rising from the first tower. I was hearing about a plane hitting the building and I could not imagine how a pilot could make that kind of mistake. Then out of the corner of the picture came another plane headed right straight for the other tower. I could not believe what was happening.

I remember checking all of the news channels to see if they were all broadcasting the same thing. I kept thinking that this must not be real, must just be some scenes from a movie or something. But it was real. It was all too real.

I remember trying to decide if I should let my then 10 year old son watch what was going on. I did have him watch. (It was one of those days that I was glad that I homeschooled.) We were able to have some good discussions.

I remember seeing the Pentagon, and thought how could this happen? This place is supposed to be the heart of our nations defense. It made me realize just how vulnerable we were, and how innocent we had been up until this day.

I remember hearing about another hijacked plane that ended up in a field in Pennsylvania. As the calls that came from that plane came to light, it gave us insight into just what was happening on those planes. We realized just what terror the passengers were facing. And we also found out that there are a lot of heroes in this country.

I remember watching the twin towers fall and felt my heart sink with them. I could not fathom the amount of people that were still inside those buildings when they fell. I could not imagine the amount of hate that it took to make those buildings fall.

I am in tears as I write this. I still can not imagine the amount of hate that went into the planning and execution of that terrorist attack. Our country has never been the same since, and it never will. The idea that there are people out there that are willing to die themselves just so they can terrorize us has become all to real.

I remember......and I always will.

My New Logo

A couple of months ago I had Marcie Hunter of Marcie Mo Designs (http://www.marciemodesigns.com/) design a logo for the scrapbooking business that I have started. I am so thrilled with it. I really love the flower pot. Leave your comments and let me know what you think about it.

I have decided to start this business for a couple of reasons. First, I love scrapbooking and really enjoy sharing with others on how to leave a "story" behind for their families. Second, my ds, Mark, will be off to college in a couple of years and so I know that the empty nest syndrome will hit me quite hard. This way I hope to have the businesss built up enough to keep me busy so that I won't sit around and pout that he is gone.

By the way, I still have one seat left at my next crop on Friday, August 17th. It is from 5 p.m. - midnight. Hurry and let me know if you would like to come.

Charge the Batteries!!

I managed to get this one shot of Tom and Mark on Father's Day. The batteries were dead in the first camera I tried. The second camera allowed me to get this shot before the batteries went dead. I wanted to add fresh batteries and get a couple of more shots, but the guys said that one was enough. So the lesson for the day is to always keep fresh batteries in the camera!

Father's Day Dilema

Tomorrow is Father's Day. I could not decide what to get my husband. I had thought about making him something - I guess because I am The Craft Addict. But, I just was not sure that he would like anything that I made. He is not much of one for gifts of things that he can't use. There are so many items you can hang on your wall at the office. So, what was I to do?

I would like to hear if any of you made anything, and how your husband liked it.

Also, remember to take a photo of him with the kids. I have forgotten to do this the past couple of years and really regretted it.

The craft show was a success, at least in my book it was. The part I enjoy the most is talking to all the visitors. The local school diecuts were a big hit.

Here are a couple of pictures of what I had:

The picture of the diecuts did not turn out very well. On the table is the clipboards, some baby board book albums and the cd wrapper diecuts. On my little tree I had some snowflake diecuts. I really liked how they looked. Think I might make up some of those for my tree at home.

Craft Show Madness

This is turning out to be a very crafty week. I am signed up to do a craft show this weekend at the Osolo Elementary School and I am busy trying to get everything done. Of course, I have waited until the last minute as usual. I think that is when my creativity is at it's best!!

So now I have two six foot tables in my living room just covered with paper and supplies. I love it, but I think that my husband would like to have the living room back to the way it was!!! I guess I can't blame him.

Trying my hand at quilting

A couple of Saturdays ago, I did a Quilt In A Day Class. This was my second time doing this. Last spring was my first attempt. At that time I made a lap size quilt.

This time I decided to really go for it and make a king size one for our own bed!! What a looong day!! You start at 7:30 am and go till abou 7:30 p.m. I actually only got the top of mine done. But that was ok since I was going to have the instructor machine quilt it anyways.

I was really happy with how it turned out, especially since this is only my second time at doing this. I will not have pictures of it for a while, because I forgot my camera that day and will not be getting it back for a couple of months.

Hello, my name is Bettie and I am a Craft Addict. Yes, it is true. My craft room is filled with yarn from crocheting and knitting projects. I have a large amount of jewelry making supplies. There are drawers full of rubberstamps and inks. Piles of material and patterns from unfinished sewing projects. And then there is the scrapbooking stuff. Piles and piles of paper, pens, albums, embellishments and all the magazines and idea books.

Yes, I guess you could say that I have an addiction. But I really do not want to recover from it. I enjoy creating new things, trying different crafts and techniques.
